Today was the day that we really got started on our final project. Our final project should solve a problem that many people have, and is the most important project of the year. Today we worked on the immersion phase. The pictures below will show what the immersion phase is. The immersion phase is very important because it is the beginning and base for your project.

What we needed to accomplish

The steps needed in our design process

Today everyone started making their second prototype or version of their product using applications such as Fusion 360, SketchUp and 123D Design and we worked on this for almost the whole class. Every group was working on different tasks and everyone was very focused on their work. Towards the end of the class Mr. Neale asked each person to put either their prototype file or a screenshot of the prototype into a folder called '3D Prototype'.

Today we worked on our product. We did interviews with people, after sketching the product, and we used the information we got from the interviews to improve our products.

April 14

Today, we spent half the class deciding what to make for our class project, and the other half with the 3D Model app Fusion 360. For homework, everyone came up with three possible items to make, and in class each group talked with Mr. Neale to decide which one to do.

For most of the class, we were able to experiment with Fusion 360, and make anything we wanted

During the last 20 minutes or so, each group got a glue gun to look at, and we tried to recreate it using the program.

Today, we learned how to use shapeshifter from Ms. Sutter. She explained how to use the website, and what we should be careful of, such as: not making small holes in the shape, no horizontal patterns, not thinner than 0.4 and thicker than 1.4. The rest of the time we spent creating different shapes, and coming up with new ideas. We also talked about what we are going to make for our next project.

Today Pamela from the Phillippines visited us to share her experience with design and social enterprise and social entrepeuarership.  Social entrepeuarership benefits the people, the environment and profit.  She created a company called "Phoneix" that uses textile waste and upcycles it to create fashionable shoes.  A quick shoutout to "Phoenix" as she is launching her company in May.
Go like her page on facebook.

The rest of the time we spent listening to the presentations of our fellow classmates on topics related to 3D design.  These topics included the History of 3D printers, uses of 3D printers, materials that are used to print, chemistry and mechanics of 3D printers.  At the end Mr. Neale introduced his NHK show which was about a electric motorycle ZEC00.

April 4th

Today was the final day of the presentations from the computer/ipad stand project. Every group had a powerpoint and talked about the problems, solutions, and process they went through to make their final product. Then someone usually demonstrated using it. After each presentation, the groups got critique from Mr Neale.

After finishing this, we went on to starting a new unit. To prepare for it we were given isometric drawings on a piece of paper, and had to try and draw them on graph paper. Then, we needed to draw the front view, side view, and top view of these drawings. These will help us for the new unit which includes using the 3D printer, and we need to make sure our drawings are clear so people can understand them.
